“Intelligent and ingenious storytelling! Thy Fiefdom Comes mines a rich vein of fantasy-realism and hits gold!”

“David KoChin’s The Fiefdom Comes plunges the reader into a pungently-evoked and intriguing dystopia, a future-fantasy world which combines the shock of the new and the haunting echo of the past.
With its engaging and diverse cast of characters, action-packed adventures and unusual theological undercurrents, this first volume in a planned trilogy is a fresh take on traditional territory, and should find many fans.”
Sophie Masson, Author of Snow, Fire, Sword, & other fantasy novels, Australia

Dear Mr KoChin. I’ll give you my review via email here. It’s just, I was so amazed by your book, like…no joke…I’m being 100% completely serious…it’s one of the best books I have ever read. I’m not sure if you know the feeling…that feeling of reading a really top quality book…I got that feeling.
It’s practically perfect in a lot of ways. I really enjoyed the parts when I could see Raf fighting with his internal struggles and I thought he might lose…but you would rescue him…just. The quote…” mortify to fortify”, is simply amazing.
Alright I’ll stop this now and give you my official review…but I need you to understand that because the book is just…pretty much mind-blowingly amazing, it was extremely hard for me to define certain aspects…I’m not even sure how to write a book review so I just tried my best.

“One of the best books I have ever read. Thy Fiefdom Comes is just one of those select few books that really achieves everything it sets out to do. Excellent story and the underlying morals and messages of commitment, loyalty, self discipline and striving to be the best possible human being you can is communicated in a near perfect sense.
Quite simply, one of the most entertaining, exciting novels I have ever read. Start to finish non-stop action and thrills, a real credit to David’s imagination and passion. I would be rating it up amongst Lord of the Rings as one the best fantasy novels I have ever read.”

“David KoChin tells a brilliant story in his novel The Fiefdom Comes.
The hero, Raf, has a sense of adventure and strong personality that will appeal to readers of all ages. His commitment to his friends and his strength of character puts him above the many, often dubious, characters in the fantasy genre.
It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a fantasy story as much as this, a book that turns its own pages. I look forward to the next in the series and any other stories David KoChin will tell us.”

“The resilience of the hero, ‘slumdog’ Raf, propels the action of this fast-paced fantasy adventure. Humans, humanoids and prehistoric clones struggle for supremacy and revenge, two millennia after the apocalyptic destruction of the 21st Century Tec civilization.
Their reactions to the challenges of this new dangerous Earth reveal the recognizable human emotions, desires, and perseverance that drive the youth Raf, his companions, and his warlord on their perilous journey.
The reader, immersed in the dangerous quest of the characters to reach their personal ambitions, will be intrigued, entertained, and engrossed in the hazardous experiences and strange beings encountered during Raf’s rollercoaster mission towards redemption. This novel is but the beginning…”
Robin Fontaine, former school librarian and teacher, Sydney, Australia.

“Thy Fiefdom Comes is a post-apocalyptic fantasy story about a young man named Raf, and his endeavours in trying to raise enough ransom to free his father. It also explores Raf’s determination to strengthen his willpower through use of his personal quote, ‘mortify to fortify’. Raf’s willpower is put to the test when he meets Miriam, a rich girl, whom at first Raf despises, but soon is smitten by her.
David KoChin has written this book splendidly. Through the use of vivid descriptive language, as well as a range of other writing techniques, KoChin is able to formulate images in the readers mind and allows them to engross themselves in the story.
I found this book to be a captivating and intriguing read. KoChin is a ray of light in a genre full of clichéd and stagnant storylines. If you’re a fan of the fantasy genre then this will make a great addition to your collection.”

To be very honest, I was never much of a ‘fantasy fan’. Nevertheless, I read Thy Fiefdom Comes filled with nothing but curiosity and growing excitement, and now, I find myself converted.
Unlike other fantasies, it’s not clothed in magic and wizardry but is down-to-earth and unpredictable. It is an engaging book, the sort that you can’t bear to put down. It is set in the future, around 4063. The Earth is enveloped in chaos and destruction, with demons, ghosts and Wingless Mad Dragons.
Humanoids rage against human fiefdoms and abused Erfs are rising up against their masters. The world where Raf Kenne and his best buddy Gelo live makes our world seem tame and blissful.
What interests me in a book first and foremost are the characters, and in Thy Fiefdom Comes the characters are all so unique and developed that they seem alive and real. In this way, you find yourself glued to the pages of the book, wanting to see what will become of them.
Raf is a principled seventeen-year-old conscript, driven by the desire to raise enough money to pay his father’s ransom. Gelo is also interested in money, but for more superficial reasons. Miriam is a loyal and ‘aristocratic’ young lady, and Leon is a determined and intelligent warlord.
The fascinating potpourri of characters goes on and should be enough to make you want to read the book. You could almost say it is as much a war book as it is fantasy. It consists of an even balance between action and rest, description and dialogue and this equality ensures there is never a boring moment and you can stay hooked until the very end.
The language is easy to understand, but at the same time, rich in a way that is rare in teenage books today. This would appeal to all teenagers and even adults. Since this is only the beginning of a series I wait eagerly for the next.

my dad got me this book on the day of the launch and once i got into the book it is hard to stop reading. my favourite part of the book is how u used interactions between the characters the brotherly relationship between raf and gelo, how valador was like a father figure to raf and how raf always seemed to save miriam when she got herself into trouble.
the book would make a very good movie and would love to see it.
now the hard part waiting the 2 years or so until the next one
